Fitness and medical requirements for space travel are not difficult to achieve. A simple checklist is provided
by Space Adventures. The routine questions incliude:
Have you ever received medical treatment for the following:
- Frequent or severe headaches?
- Ear disease, hearing loss, or balance disorders?
- Neck, back, or spinal problems?
- Diabetes?
- Blood disorders?
- High or low blood pressure?
- Stomach, liver, or intestinal trouble?
- Lung disease, breathing problems, or asthama?
- Recent severe illness, surgery, or hospital admission?
- Neurological disorders (epilepsy, seazures, stroke, etc)?
- Weakened joints or broken bones in the past year?
- Behaviorial health, mental or psychological problems (panic attacks, fear of heights, fear of flying, fear of closed spaces)?
- Recent use of illegal substances or alcohol abuse?
Answering yes to any of these questions does not disqualify the person from space flight. Presenting a physician's note
stating that the person is physically fit and that none of the conditions will affect the participant's safety, will
allow that person to go on the space flight. |
